Four glowing carved jack-o-lanterns on wooden porch steps at night, with a phone propped below them showing a photo of a pumpkin

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the October horror subreddits, the stories and movie threads that make Reddit fun to read this month. This post is about the other half of Halloween Reddit: the half you don’t read at all. You just look at it.

Costumes, carved pumpkins, and yard haunts. It’s almost all photos, and the next two and a half weeks are when it gets good.

Why the Last Week Is the Best Week

Most of this stuff gets made right before Halloween. Pumpkins don’t last long once they’re carved, so people carve them in the last week or so. Costumes come together at the last minute, and the photos show up after the parties.

This year Halloween is on a Saturday, so there are two party weekends: the 24th and 25th, and then the 30th and 31st. Expect two waves of costume photos, then a big one on Sunday, November 1, when everyone posts what they wore.

Starting now means you see the whole thing build: the work-in-progress posts, the “how do I make this” questions, and then the finished results.

Where to Look

r/pumpkincarving. The sub calls itself “a place to upload your creative musings on an orange vegetable medium,” which is about right. You’ll see everything from a first-time triangle-eyes jack-o-lantern to carvings so detailed they look like they were printed.

r/Pumpkins. Broader than carving. Growing, painting, decorating, and the occasional giant pumpkin that needed a forklift to move.

r/HalloweenCostume. Photos of people in their costumes, and that’s it. The sub sends idea requests elsewhere, so the feed stays mostly finished costumes. It’s the one that blows up after each party weekend.

r/HalloweenProps. For prop builders and yard haunt people. This is where you see someone’s front lawn turn into a graveyard one tombstone at a time, plus a lot of clever tricks with zip ties and electrical conduit.

r/halloween. The big general sub. It runs a costume megathread, and in the last week it fills up with decorated porches and full-house setups.

How I’d Scroll It

Sort by Top, past week. In a big seasonal rush, Top for the past week is the fastest way to the best stuff without wading through every post.

Check New on the Sunday after. November 1 is when the costume photos come in. New is where you find the ones that haven’t been upvoted yet, and a lot of the best ones never make it to the top.

Go back to the work-in-progress posts. When someone posts their unfinished prop on the 15th, the finished version shows up a week later. Following one build from start to finish is the best part of the season.

Why It Works on Redinfinite

These subs are one photo per post, which is exactly what Redinfinite was built for. Open a sub, swipe through one pumpkin or costume at a time, and nothing else on the screen competes with the photo. It’s the most swipeable two weeks of the year.

Start with r/pumpkincarving tonight and see what people are carving this week.

Swipe through any subreddit, no account needed. Open Redinfinite →
